43. How bodies store trauma w/ LGBTQ+ Chiropractor Dr. Katie Schlein Valadez
Happy Pride Month, magic makers! I’m so honored to welcome my childhood friend, Dr. Katie Schlein Valadez to the podcast today to talk about how we can use the body as an entry point to heal deeper emotional and psychological issues.
Katie is a chiropractor and business owner in San Diego, CA. She herself is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and she’s created a wonderful, safe and open place for any and all people seeking healing. In this conversation, Katie generously shared insights into how families in the gay community have wildly different experiences that their cis-hetero- counterparts when it comes to healing and finding safe places.
Because Katie has so much experience as a holistic health practitioner, I asked her to share how emotional and psychological trauma are stored in our bodies. She’s an expert at unpacking how we can hold onto trauma and “dis-ease” in our bodies - I was seriously mind blown when she started describing some of the physical symptoms and side effects of stress!
More than anything, Dr. Katie believes that health is not a destination but a journey. By providing support and addressing her practice members’ needs, she is committed to helping families access their potential to reach their health goals. She chose pediatric and prenatal care as her specialty to help change the paradigm and how kids view health.
